A Formação Inicial do Pensamento de John Dewey

Dewey's philosophical thinking can be divided into three periods. The first corresponds to the period of the publications of his first articles, still under the influence of American transcendentalism, until approximately publication of Studies in Logical Theory. The second phase corresponds to the following two decades, at which time Dewey developed his philosophy of education, for which he is best known, and his instrumentalist pragmatism. The beginning of the third phase is demarcated by the publication of Experience and Nature. This article focuses on presenting the vicissitudes of Dewey's thought in this first phase, an unexplored period of philosophical biography of the American pragmatist. In this sense, this article would cover the historical period that corresponds to Dewey's graduation in philosophy at the University of Vermont and his identification with Hegelianism and transcendentalism until his departure from Hegelianism and the adoption of experimental psychology as a tool capable of addressing the complexity of human experience.
