Bacon e Espinosa: a ciência, para que serve?

This paper shows that the role and value of science in Bacon and Espinosa differ according to the role and value that either attaches to metaphysics as branch of knowledge. In Bacon the value of science is big while the same value of metaphysics is none. In Spinoza, the figures are reversed. But while the theory of knowledge in Bacon obeys theological assumptions, and therefore, ultimately, the belief, in Spinoza the value of metaphysics and science is born of his metaphysical concepts, the result of a work of knowledge that follows not the faith but the own intellect.
