This is, in general, the layout of a class III History of Modern Philosophy, which aimed to introduce the topic of the course. The synthetic way was required to adopt, by the fact, for this purpose, the teacher took the illusion that it might be interesting to more people and, imitating the gesture of Antonio Candido, to give a written form to the content of the lecture, intended merely establish a few points - moreover, very peaceful - a decisive moment in the development of Western thought. The preparation of this class was greatly facilitated by reading some essays Gérard Lebrun, now gathered in a book titled Once Upon a Time in Königsberg.
