2015Pedro Paulo Pimenta. Gibbon e a história filosófica de Tácito. Cadernos de Filosofia Alemã: Crítica e Modernidade, v. 20, n. 1, p. 13-30, 2015.2

The paper deals with Gibbon's philosophical history so as to show his indebtedness to the Roman historian Tacitus, author of the "Germania", "Histories", "Annals" and other books. Overcoming the neglect of Voltaire for the Roman author, Gibbon and his contemporaries find in his works the general principle of explanation for the origins of modern European political institutions in the deeps of the German forests at the time of Rome.
