2011Delamar José Volpato Dutra. GROTIUS: PRÉ-HISTÓRIA DA TEORIA KANTIANA DA VIRTUDE. Revista Dissertatio de Filosofia, v. 33, p. 439-453, 2011.2
The paper analyzes the critique of Grotius to the virtue ethics of Aristotle. The main point to argue for is that modernity requires a more precise definition of standards that guide conduct, so that the appeal to character is not a sufficient standard. Thus, a moral more clearly defined based on more specific laws is the alternative to which Grotius proposes. The paper will try to show how such perspectives have reflected in Kant´s moral theory, whose emphasis is rooted in the notion of a universally valid moral law.
