Launching this text on the river of navigations, Antonio Saggese’s photographs impose themselves as amazon through the discourse they evoke and to which they refer. The heterogeneity of images and textual references is presented against the sense of sizes: the immensity not only of the forest is reinstated over the myth of female warriors transported from one continent to another, but also the immensity of the matter as cause and of wood as matter – that is Hileia, in a Humboldtian notion. At the junction between nature and artifice, that one which is personified by Saggese of the waters, the heterogeneous forest unites the image and the contemplation, reciprocal in their singular associations, one giving existence to the other in its own way, differentiated through the circumstances of its acts.
