This article examines the treatment of the subject and subjectivity in the realm of Surrealism. In particular, comments the procedures recommended by André Breton and Salvador Dali in order to the subjectivity prevail in its confrontation with objectivity. It shows the complementarity of Breton’s "psychic automatism", passive, and "paranoid-critical method" of Dali, active; and the extent to which such procedures had been anticipated by Baudelaire, when referring to "suggestive magic" containing both subject and object, and through exposition of what Dali would name as "double image" in his poems, and in passages such as his praise of the contemplation of clouds in the poem "Le Voyage".
