The purpose of this text is to discuss the way how we philosophers deal with the role of philosophy in Brazil since it was used at our university. For this scope, we seek to use the work of the young Nietzsche from 1874, On the usefulness and disadvantage of history for life, where the philosopher points out his criticism regarding the way the erudite man deals with his intellectual heritage, in short, with his past, and thus reflect on how we can employ our intellectual legacy in the service of life, and not in the reproduction of copies. To support this proposal, we will use the discussions presented by Brazilian authors Roberto Schwarz, Oswaldo Porchat and Paulo Arantes, who end up elucidating our conduct in the face of erudition in philosophy, coming from the Old World.
