A herança hegeliana na crítica à filosofia do sujeito em Charles Taylor

This paper aims is to articulate the influence of Hegelian analysis of modernity on Charles Taylor's critique of modern subjectivity philosophy. Although known, this influence is not worked on in the various studies about Taylor. He performs a hermeneutics of the Hegelian philosophy, being responsible for one of the main receptions of Hegelian thought in the English-speaking philosophical community. Hegel's influence on Taylor's work remains as an assumed but unexplored dimension. The purpose of this paper is, therefore, to rebuild such a hegelian influence in Taylor's critique of modern subjectivity philosophy. In his studies on Hegel, as Rainer Forst argues, Taylor interpreted the Hegelian critique of the modern concept of freedom just like a critique to the concept of the empty subject, not situated in the identity-forming context. To this narrow view of subjectivity, Taylor counteracted, inspired on Hegel, an alternative version of linguistic, historical, cultural, and communicatively situated identity, that means, an identity which is a comprehensive part of a community that forms us while subjects. We will first, highlight the emergence of the self in the context of modernity; next, we will emphasize the Hegelian critique to the notion of the self-conscious modern subject; finally, we will articulate how Hegelian criticism directly influenced Taylor in his critique to modern subjectivity.
