A LIBERDADE EM “TRÊS ATOS” NA FILOSOFIA DE HANNAH ARENDT

One of the most far-reaching reflections of Hannah Arendt is the one that focuses on the theme of freedom. In the pages of What is Freedom? we come across an argumentative movement that has the premise of asserting that freedom is the raison d'être of politics and its domain of experience is in the public sphere. However, in Origins of Totalitarianism, there is another argumentative pole, which presents thought as the freest of spiritual faculties, which is constantly threatened to be replaced by the straitjacket of ideology. Finally, in The Life of the Mind, Arendt states that the will has an infinitely greater freedom than thought. These three argumentative movements about freedom build a conceptual contradiction which, in our understanding, is not amenable to resolution, but only to explanations about each of these movements. Reflecting on this conceptual contradiction constitutes the core objective of this article.
