This paper analyses the classification of philosophy published by Gregor Reisch in the book Margarita philosophica (1503). Introduced by two allegoric images, Reisch’s Philosophiae partitio synthetizes previous classifications of knowledge, having its foundation on Greek division between practical and theoretical knowledge. In order to understand it, it is proposed an analysis of classifications of the sciences sketched by Aristotle, the most important ancient philosopher in the Renaissance, and Medieval classifications as well. At the end, it is proposed the use of Philosophiae partitio in order to elaborate a method of approach to the philosophy of the Renaissance.
