At the time of his death in Rio de Janeiro in February 1941, Alberto Ramos left an unpublished collection of translations of the work of Friedrich Nietzsche. Announced in 1940 as the ‘Nietzschean Anthology’ in progress, it would be published by one of the largest publishing houses of the country in 1949. In reassessing part of the intellectual journey of the poet who approached Nietzsche’s philosophy probably at the end of the 19th Century, this essay reconstructs the scenery of the translations of Nietzsche’s works in Brazil, between the years of 1936 and 1948, to assess the singularity of the Nietzschiana. Likewise, the history of the book’s edition is traced, highlighting the efforts of scholars such as Gastão Cruls and Agripino Grieco. The anthology, which was organized by a poet, journalist and translator from Pelotas, should soon be out in a special edition, annotated and revised based on the critical edition by Colli and Montinari.
