A RELAÇÃO ENTRE POLÍTICA E RELIGIÃO NOS DISCORSI DE MAQUIAVEL

This article aims to present an overview of the relation between politics and religion in Machiavel’s thoughts, as shown in his book Discorsi sopra la prima Deca di Tito Livio. To do so, our text begins with a briefily historical path, in order to comprehend Machiavel´s writing contexto. After that, take the work in question and some commentators in order to show that Machiavel’s considerations about religion are twofold: first, as instrumentum regni because it is useful to impose and keep the power, and second as something that belongs to people’s culture, and it is responsible for maintaining the internal political union. In both ways, aim to show that religion is not disconnected from political action in Machiavel’s thought.
