AS PAIXÕES DA ALMA NO MEDIEVO, O MOVIMENTO DO DESEJO NO INTERIOR DA VONTADE EM SANTO AGOSTINHO

The article aims to present a study about the passions of the soul in the philosophy of St. Augustine. Given the breadth of the theme of the passions, we have as an object for this study the desire in view of its preponderance in human cognitive psychology. Thus, considering that the core around which all experience of the human being gravitates is the desire for happiness, this theme permeates all sources of Latin humanism and will demarcate the singularity of Augustine's thought. Augustine of Hippo places the movement of desire within the will, surpassing the physiological aspect of this notion and locating its origin in the faculties of the human mind. Being human life, generally determined by what he desires, for Augustine is eternity, the object of desire that harmonizes the life of the soul. Enlarge Augustine's invention and perhaps its main legacy for Christian mysticism, maybe the Augustinian heritage of Neoplatonism was to identify the desire of God imprinted within the soul and its potency in the soul's spiritual dynamism, which is perhaps its main legacy for the Christian mystique in the West.
