Catástrofe, evento, cotidiano: modos de testemunhar na literatura de Scolastique Mukasonga

This article discusses the work of Rwandan writer Scolastique Mukasonga, focusing on two of her books:“Cockroaches” and “The Barefoot Woman”. The author explores the slow violence and its manifestations priorto the Rwandan genocide of 1994, contrasting it with the violence of the event itself. The article examines howthe experience of violence manifests in Mukasonga's narratives, exploring the different forms of testimony andthe relationships between memory, history and the everyday experience of trauma. The author argues that slowviolence, which permeates everyday life and manifests itself in critical events, demands a complex approach,including the inscription of genocide in collective memory in a broader way, considering the temporal dimensionof colonialism and its effects of racialism, both at global and local levels.
