F. H. Jacobi remains a controversial figure in the history of philosophy. In the debates that followed the publication of the Critique of Pure Reason, of which he is one of its most radical critics, his presence is substantial; despite this fact, Jacobi remains a background figure, as if his views did not come from his own philosophical body. However, attention to his work proves the opposite. Reason and understanding, logic and the foundations of science, are reconsidered in a new light: faith is the basis of every knowledge and in that sense science is a “second hand” knowledge. We aim to present these concepts and show how they undermine critical idealism.
