Wars, conflicts, climate change, disasters and political and economic instability are the main causes of humanitarian crisis that challenges the social and political institutions created to prevent the widespread violation of human rights. One of the main consequences of these occurrences is forced migrations, in particular, internal displacement caused by disasters, whose invisibility or media opacity contrasts with its statistics and the prolonged suffering of its victims. This article aims to discuss the extent to which humanitarian and peace journalism can contribute to remove migration by disasters from opacity, inhibiting the “naturalization” narrative and providing the visibility and debate necessary to face the problem.
