This article aims to understand the state of the art of contemporary naturalism from the discussion with non-naturalist positions, especially those of Moore and Rawls. It begins with the analysis of the central argument of those approaches in the formal context of contemporary metaethics, seeking to gauge the validity of the naturalistic fallacy in today’s context, as well as its limits in the application against moral naturalism. The discussion between moral naturalism and non-naturalism is presented as, respectively, standard towards the descriptive and prescriptive perspectives of morality. This comparison aims to present some metaethical positions in order to better understand the contemporary context of the moral debate about the naturalization of ethics, contrasting theories of action and value with respect to the theme of moral motivation and normativity.
