ENTRE RAZÕES ESPECULATIVAS E PRÁTICA - ALGUMAS NOTAS SOBRE A MOTIVAÇÃO NO COMENTÁRIO DE TOMÁS DE AQUINO À ÉTICA A NICÔMACO VI, 1-2

The present article aims to investigate in some passages of Thomas Aquinas commentary on Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics if speculative reasons could be reasons for action. In general, interpreters are divided between one position that identify all the principles of natural law as prescriptive propositions and one position that identify some principles of natural law as descriptive propositions. The hypothesis of the present article is that speculative reasons could be reasons for action, considering just the context of the commentaries. In the commentary of the passage 1139a21-22, he defend that there is a conformation between reasons of both ambits, what seems to be a textual evidence for the hypothesis that speculative reasons could be reasons for action. The present article will seek to analyze these passages in the light of the mentioned interpretive problem.
