The article discusses the notions of image and imaginationin Spinoza’s Ethics. The analysis will begin by listing passages whereSpinoza refers to images as affections of the body and to imaginationsas affections of the mind. In a second moment, the text will go to EII P17 cor., according to which the generation of images will be analyzed. Atthis point, it will be highlighted that movement — not trace — is whatconstitutes the essence of images. Next, the generation of imaginationsin the mind will be analyzed and some comments on Spinoza’s conceptionof memory will be made. Finally, it should be noted that the articleis limited to the Ethics because this work brings significant changes inthe way Spinoza thinks this topic in relation to his texts of youth
