In this lecture it is argued that the attempt to trace Spinoza’s politics back to physically describable events, which can be read in A. Matheron’s text of the same name, is false. The presentation will deal with Spinoza’s ontology: it is intended to show that it cannot be physically interpreted. The interpretation is also directed against the hypothesis of J. Bennett in his book A Study of Spinoza’s Ethics, for whom Spinoza’s philosophy is interpreted under the priority of the attribute of extension and, therefore, according to a physical model.
