The present work aims to analyze, according to the “Preface” of Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit, the role of religion in the conduction of consciousness to absolute knowledge, the ultimate and maximum level of understanding that the human being can reach from himself and the world. To reach this object, the work here indicates that Hegel's purpose is based on a panoramic description of the “Preface” in situating consciousness and religion within the system contained in the Phenomenology. Next, the article presents the position of consciousness in the world, placed between the desire to take the other consciousness away, on the one hand, and the duty to recognize it, on the other. Indeed, the research shows that religion offers an alternative to solve this tension between consciousnesses, proposing a social balance through the concept of “community.” Finally, this research looks at how, in the Phenomenology, absolute knowledge, stated as the goal of consciousness, is closely related to the concept of God, which is the axis of religious doctrine.
